Why D3 and K2 belong together

The NHS recommends all UK adults supplement with vitamin D from October to March. But vitamin D3 on its own only gets calcium into your bloodstream. It doesn’t control where that calcium ends up.

That’s where K2 comes in. Vitamin K2 activates osteocalcin, the protein that directs calcium into bones and teeth rather than soft tissue and arteries. Without adequate K2, the calcium that D3 helps you absorb may not reach where it’s most useful.

This formula uses K2 as MK-7, the longer-acting form that stays active in the body for up to 72 hours, compared with just a few hours for MK-4. It also includes MCT oil because both D3 and K2 are fat-soluble vitamins. Taking them alongside a fat source improves absorption, so you don’t need to worry about timing your capsule with a meal.

What is the difference between MK-7 and MK-4 vitamin K2?
MK-7 and MK-4 are two forms of vitamin K2. The main practical difference is how long they stay active. MK-4 has a half-life of a few hours, so blood levels drop quickly after a single dose. MK-7 stays active for up to 72 hours, which means one daily capsule maintains more consistent levels. This formula uses all-trans MK-7, the bioactive isomer. Some supplements use a mix of trans and cis isomers, but only the trans form is biologically active.
Do I need to take this with food?
It helps, but it is less critical with this formula than with most vitamin D supplements. D3 and K2 are fat-soluble, so they absorb better with dietary fat. We included MCT oil in the capsule specifically to provide that fat source, so you get improved absorption even without a fatty meal. That said, taking it alongside breakfast or lunch is still a good habit.
Is 4,000 IU of vitamin D safe to take daily?
4,000 IU is the tolerable upper intake level set by EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) for adults. It is not a megadose. The NHS recommends a minimum of 400 IU daily for all UK adults, and many practitioners recommend 1,000 to 4,000 IU for people with low or insufficient levels. If you have a specific medical condition or take medication that affects vitamin D metabolism, check with your GP before starting any supplement.
Can I take this alongside a magnesium supplement?
Yes. Magnesium is required for your body to activate vitamin D into its usable form. Taking magnesium and vitamin D together is well supported by research. If you are considering magnesium, a well-absorbed form like magnesium glycinate pairs well with this formula.
Can I take vitamin K2 if I’m on blood thinners?
If you take warfarin or another vitamin K-dependent anticoagulant, speak to your GP or pharmacist before using any supplement containing vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 can affect how these medications work. This does not apply to anticoagulants that work through different mechanisms (such as DOACs like apixaban or rivaroxaban), but it is always worth checking with your prescriber if you are unsure.

    Vegan D3

    It is excellent that this is a clearly marked vegan vitamin D3. Most vitamin D3 is derived from animal sources making it vegetarian but not vegan. However this is marked as being vegan which is very much appreciated. The price of this is very reasonable and with the current voucher at costs under a tenner which is great for a vegan product. The expiry date from the time before ordering is a year which maybe isn’t too long but should be sufficient for most people. You get 120 capsules here and if you go for the recommended dosage of one daily this will last you for months. Overall I am really impressed. You are getting a vegan vitamin D3 that uses a vegetarian capsule and D3 sourced from vegan sources and all for under a tenner.

    Highly recommend this product because of its practicality.

    I like the idea of 5 vitamins in 1 capsule. Definitely easy to swallow as you’re only taking 1 capsule. Practical for use and everyday life, straight forward and light in term of luggage. It’s flavourless since it’s a capsule.
    Potency wise, I’ll need a test to tell you how my body has benefited but what I can say is, am feeling good and strong.

    I received this item through the Amazon Vine programme.
    This is a good supplement of Vitamin D plus additions of Boron, K2 and Zinc: a particularly useful combination in terms of boosting your immune system.
    The capsules are standard-sized and well formed, there were no broken ones or dust/debris in the bottle, and they are vegan. There is no discernible aftertaste.
    At the suggested dose of one-a-day the bottle will last some 4 months.
    Retailing at £10.99 they are good value for money, and there is a further £2 discount voucher valid until the end of August 2021.

    Good for the price

    At the moment we all need vitamin D for our immune system and even though you only need 15 minutes a day of direct sunlight that can’t always be achieved so decided to get vitamin D in tablet form. I chose these as they gave other active ingredients which will also enhance not only my immune system by also my general health. They’re high absorption which is really important and easy enough to swallow with no nasty taste. Only one to be taken each day so nearly 3 months worth

    Marketed principally as Vitamin D3 there are actually 5 vitamins in each capsule – Vitamins D3, K2, Zinc, Boron and MCT Oil. Easy to swallow, flavourless, vegetarian capsule, this bottle of 120 represents good value at £11.99.

    As a vegetarian of more than 50 years I’m aware that, although my diet is balanced, there are certain vitamins I may need to supplement – but that’s true of other diets as well. I have taken B12 and D3 every day for years.I can’t honestly say I’ve noticed an improvement in my health or well-being, but my attitude is it can’t do me any harm, providing I stick to the recommended dose.

    This is a sort of multi mineral supplement.

    There is a very good description of why you would find it useful, on the box so I have included that in the photographs.

    Doseage is 1 capsule a day.

    Suitable to vegans and vegetarians

    Free from Artificial Colours, flavours, Milk, Lactose, Soya, Gluten, Wheat, Yeat and Porcine

    Nursing and expecting mothers,on those on meds or who have heart or Kidney problems, consult with a doctor before taking.

    Good for having with a morning milk shake if you empty the capsule in before blending or stir in after blending, can also be sprinkled over breakfast or other meals. does not affect the taste.
    Or swallowable as they are of course and they are not too hard to get down as they are the 6mm by 20mm narrower kind of capsule.

    At roughly £12 for 4 months supply, this seems very good value.

    No effect at all. Note that these capsules don’t have any actual oil in them. Vitamin D is best absorbed with oil but these capsules are made with entirely dry powdered ingredients. I don’t know enough about powdering oil but these capsules didn’t do anything for me at all.

    Excellent preparation to support ones immune system and bone health.

    Excellent preparation with the focus on bone health with the inclusion of boron and zinc as well as vitamin K to the all-important Vitamin D3 for our immune system that we cannot manufacture from the sun as we go into the winter months in the UK. This is the first supplement that I have come across to have all these additions as well as using MCT to enhance the absorption of Vitamin D and K. As I am over 70 I am very interested in ensuring my bones are strong so I will be buying this preparation in the future.
    The large capsules are easy to swallow have no after taste. It is important to me to see it stated on the bottle that they are gluten and wheat free as I am a coeliac, but it is also great to see that people with dairy or nut allergies are also able to take this supplement.

    It is produced in the UK at the current price of £ 11.99 for 4 month’s supply this works out to £3.00 a month it is incredible value for money, easily affordable. The BBD is 09.2022 so quite fresh.

    These Vitamin D3 capsules come in a dark bottle with a protective sealed label. They are also powered by other ingredients such as Vitamin K2, Zinc, Boron and MCT oil. There are 120 capsules, that’s good for a four-month supply for the current price of £12.99. These suitable for vegetarian capsules are made free from fillers, wheat, gluten, dairy and nuts.

    I have been taking Vitamin D3 on and off since I was diagnosed with arthritis in my knee. With the lack of sunshine in the UK, it’s essential to take this supplement to help my body absorb calcium and phosphorus for building and keeping strong bones. Vitamin D also is known to help combat colds and flu. With the added Vitamin K2, Zinc, Boron and MCT oil in the formulation helps enhance the absorption of vitamin D.

    I have been taking this supplement for about three weeks now, not sure if it works or not, but I feel great, I don’t feel any pain in my knee, and don’t have colds or flu either, so I guess it’s working. The capsule doesn’t have any significant smell or taste. 

    The product seems of a good quality, manufactured in the UK under strict guidelines and the highest standards. Would recommend it.

    Tried this brand for the first time a couple of months ago having been taking other brands, I was attracted to this by the fact that the vitamin D comes in coconut oil capsule and also contains other complimentary supplement; boron and zinc among other things.
    I have been impressed with the quality and feel that they have made a difference particularly in these difficult times and have just ordered my second bottle.

    After my blood test showed I am vitamin D deficient, I bought supplements. The results were subtle but perfect. After a week, I felt less fatigue and my brain fog symptoms disappeared. I feel overall much better and more upbeat!

    I like it

    It’s got a lot of stuff in each capsule, including MCT oil for fat. I wish it had a little bit of vitamin A as well, because that’s something that helps the absorption of vitamin D. I take magnesium capsules. As well of a lot of different things it does, magnesium is involved with absorbing vitamin D and controls how much we need.

    The customer service is very good at answering questions – I was confused with whether it was vegetarian or not, as some people were claiming it was whilst others said no. I received a direct answer with a full explanation from the company (it is, but depends on your views on wool being used as part of the product).

    Too early to tell as to whether this product will have any noticeable changes to my health but will update where necessary.

    Great Supplement for Health – Effective but Large Capsules

    I’ve been using the Vitamin D3 K2 Zinc Supplement for a few weeks and am really happy with it. The formula, with 4000 IU of Vitamin D3, Vitamin K2 MK7, Zinc, Boron, and MCT oil, is effective and easy to take. I’ve noticed improved energy and overall well-being. The only downside is that the capsules are a bit large, which might be hard for some to swallow. Otherwise, it’s a great product, and I’ll continue using it!
